A NEW MUSICAL THAT LEAVES ‘EM SMILIN’ IN THE AISLES
TELL ME ABOUT OVER THE BOARDWALK
The indomitable spirit of the people who live "down the shore" in New Jersey is what inspired Over The Boardwalk.
OVER THE BOARDWALK takes place in 1963 on a New Jersey beach boardwalk amusement pier. It’s the summer before JFK is shot and the Beatles come to America. The country, the culture and the music are soon to change irrevocably. And so are the characters on this boardwalk.
American women are feeling the constraints of their roles as “the fairer” or “weaker” sex. Cracks appear in the façade of those beliefs, and the seeds of a sexual revolution are sown. American youth will soon flex the muscles of their growing numbers, and “old” is becoming a dirty word. America wants progress.
In OVER THE BOARDWALK that progress comes with a hefty price tag. A ruthless, greedy developer threatens the beach boardwalk, a way of life, memories and everyone’s equilibrium.
Did you know that like the fictitious New Jersey Boardwalk in OVER THE BOARDWALK many similar, real-life shore front amusement piers are today facing their final farewell? Beloved places like Coney Island, New York (Astroland sold to Thor Industries), Trimpers in Ocean City, Maryland and others are on borrowed time.
How have people who’ve seen the show described OVER THE BOARDWALK?
If you see people running on the boardwalk - or the beach - this summer, maybe they’re running to see
